Karen,
Please remember that God loves you more than you can ever imagine, and that He deeply desires that you spend eternity with Him. He has provided the way, so all you need do is accept what He has provided through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.
There are two powers in our universe, one working and doing all he can to destroy and to kill. Scripture says that he walks about as a "roaring lion" seeking whom he may devour. That person is known as Satan, also known as a liar because, as scripture says, he is the father of lies. There's more I could say about him, nothing good! Every person who has ever been trapped by drugs, alcohol, or any other human destroying sin, can be traced back to the fact that Satan wants to destroy that person.
On the other hand, the Other Person (God) desires the very best for His created beings. What He wants is for every single one of us to live an eternity of bliss and happiness. He desires it so much that He sent His only begotten Son to this earth to suffer and to die for us. He died for you, Karen. He paid your sin debt by taking your guilt upon Himself, Karen. What love, that the creator of heaven and earth would demonstrate His love by suffering and dieing for us. All of us are guilty before Him, and deserving of eternal punishment. That includes you and me, and every person who has ever lived. But Jesus took our punishment upon Himself, and died in our place. That is the best demonstration of love that I can imagine.
Salvation, as I think you already know, can be had by repenting of our sins and accepting what Jesus did for us. If you have never sincerely made those two choices, I plead with you to do so. Turn your whole self over to Him, depending totally upon Him to deliver you from all the evil that exists upon earth. He will do it, if you will but trust Him to do it.
May God bless you now and forever.
A friend,
John
