Yoga & Recovery

Some of those seeking recovery take issue with the concept of spirituality; the second and third steps of 12-step recovery programs involve a belief in a power greater than yourself. Not only does yoga improve your spirituality, it is a great stress reliever and improves flexibility and your body.

My local yoga studio, Project Yoga Richmond [which is also a 501-c(3) non-profit organization; donation-based classes] has multiple, mixed-level classes every day of the week. They also have a Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) meetings on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30. Y12SR meetings have group-therapy followed by meditation and a yoga class.

I also found a documentary called "Addiction, Recovery, and Yoga"on
"how people, with serious addiction problems, have used yoga as part of their recovery in 12 step programs, to a new life of health and emotional stability."

I love the work we do and the community we have across the USA. You are doing amazing work. Y12SR classes are so powerful. Any opportunity to combine Yoga and Recovery uplifts us all.
