Yoga & Recovery
Some of those seeking recovery take issue with the concept of spirituality; the second and third steps of 12-step recovery programs involve a belief in a power greater than yourself. Not only does yoga improve your spirituality, it is a great stress reliever and improves flexibility and your body.
My local yoga studio, Project Yoga Richmond [which is also a 501-c(3) non-profit organization; donation-based classes] has multiple, mixed-level classes every day of the week. They also have a Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) meetings on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30. Y12SR meetings have group-therapy followed by meditation and a yoga class.
I also found a documentary called "Addiction, Recovery, and Yoga"on "how people, with serious addiction problems, have used yoga as part of their recovery in 12 step programs, to a new life of health and emotional stability."
